Description

MEDFORD, MA — Educators from the Medford Teachers Association (MTA) held a rally Monday afternoon outside City Hall, calling on the School Committee to settle a fair and equitable contract immediately. Many of the city's teachers have gone without a contract since August, when the three-year contract between the district and the MTA expired. According to the MTA, many of Medford's veteran educators are seeking employment in other districts due to the ongoing contract issues. The rally, held right before the 6 p.m. School Committee meeting, featured comments from Medford Teachers Association President Charlene Douglas and members of the Contract Action Team and was met with support from many drivers passing City Hall, who honked and cheered. MTA members headed into City Hall after the rally to attend the School Committee meeting and support the bargaining team. At the meeting, Douglas is expected to speak on why a fair contract and respect for educators is important amid the backdrop of a national teachers shortage.
