PARAMUS, NJ — Officers in Paramus arrested a North Carolina resident on Tuesday after finding a gun with hollow nose bullets during a traffic stop, police said. Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg said an officer stopped a 2005 Honda Accord Tuesday morning "for unsafe lane changes and overly tinted windows." The passenger told the officer there was a loaded handgun in the car, Ehrenberg said. Two other officers arrived and had the occupants step out of the vehicle, he said. The officers found the gun under the seat, Ehrenberg said. The passenger, 53-year-old Robert Collins of Ayden, N.C., was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun and unlawful possession of hollow nose bullets, Ehrenberg said. The driver was released, according to Ehrenberg.
