Mercer's Drug Take-Back Event Nets 105 Pounds Of Medicine

MERCER COUNTY, NJ – Mercer County residents disposed of 105 pounds of unused or expired drugs during Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on April 30, Mercer County Sheriff Jack Kemler said. A wide range of old medications, including blood pressure and heart medications to dangerous opiate painkillers like OxyContin. The drop-off event, held twice each year by the Sheriff's Office, is a safe, fast, and easy way to get rid of old medications. "Our goal is to help residents rid their medicine cabinets of dangerous painkillers and other pills they no longer use," Sheriff Jack Kemler said. "By properly disposing of old prescriptions, we can together prevent drug abuse, accidental use, and drug-related crime." The drugs were turned over to the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and destroyed.
