HOBOKEN, NJ — The Apple TV+ fantasy/horror series "Improbable Valentine," based on the book "The Changeling," began filming this month, and despite the rain, it was on location in Hoboken for Wednesday, May 4. The series, starring LaKeith Stanfield, has been described as a "parenting fable" about a mother and father who search for the son who was taken from them. The state's Motion Picture and Television Commission said the show will be filming in Newark, Paterson, and Hoboken through September. Another site says it will also film in Jersey City, Ontario, and New York City. The production company is based in Secaucus. A description for the show reads, "Set in a New York City no one knew existed, the drama focuses on the death-defying odyssey of Apollo Kagwa and Emma Valentine as they look to find out what happened to the son who was removed from them. On their voyage, they will travel through enchanted isles and haunted woodlands, meet glowing witches, demon giants and racist cops." The description references the last presidency: "They'll deal with the perils of personal technology and social media, toxic masculinity, the mental health of new mothers and fathers and find out if surviving a fairytale is as brutal as simply surviving in Trumplandia." Melina Matsoukis will direct. Get more local news about Hoboken delivered straight to your inbox. Sign up here for free Hoboken daily 6 a.m. newsletters or for breaking news alerts.
