Press release from the City of Hoboken: May 4, 2022 Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla and the City of Hoboken invite residents to a virtual public meeting on Wednesday, May 11, at 7 p.m. to provide input on preliminary concept designs for the Sinatra Drive Redesign Project. The Sinatra Drive Redesign Project will transform the waterfront boulevard from Fourth Street to 11th Street utilizing $1.2 million in New Jersey Department of Transportation funding to improve access, connectivity, and safety for all modes of transportation. The redesign will incorporate Vision Zero and complete street strategies, as well as green infrastructure to beautify the roadway and absorb rainwater during storms. To join the meeting, go to www.hobokennj.gov/SinatraDriveMeeting. The conceptual designs for the redesign of Sinatra Drive are based on public feedback gathered through stakeholder meetings and an online survey. Of the over 1,200 respondents, 90 percent identified as living in Hoboken, 88 percent stated they typically walk to Sinatra Drive, and 37 percent of respondents said they ride their bike to Sinatra Drive. Survey findings indicate that the top five priorities for the redesign of Sinatra Drive include: Installing green landscaping along the corridor with more plantings Ensuring safe bicycle circulation Improving the streetscape and adding street furniture Improving the safety of pedestrian crossings Calming traffic on Sinatra Drive When asked what respondents disliked about Sinatra Drive, the most popular responses were cars and traffic speeds, the lack of green infrastructure, and poor roadway quality. Survey respondents that offered their ideas for improving Sinatra Drive suggested reducing vehicular traffic and widening walkways and bike paths as top ideas. The project team will use feedback gathered through the community meeting to create a refined concept design that will be presented to the public this summer. Members of the public who are unable to attend the virtual community meeting will be able to view a recording of the meeting and the presentation materials on the project website at www.hobokennj.gov/SinatraDriveRedesign.
