MEDFORD, NY – A 31-year-old was seriously injured when he crashed a stolen SUV into a tree in Medford Saturday morning, Suffolk Police said.
According to police, Christopher Green stole a 2006 Nissan Murano from a BP gas station at Express Drive North and Wheeler Road in Hauppauge at about 9:50 a.m. The owner of the Nissan was able to track the vehicle through an app on a cellphone left in the car while police were investigating the theft.
Sixth Precinct officers located the Nissan in a parking lot at 1945 North Ocean Ave. in Farmingville and attempted to pull over the driver at 10:40 a.m.
Green, of Mastic Beach fled and police attempted to follow the vehicle but lost sight of it, police said.
Green lost control of the SUV and crashed into a tree on Horseblock Road, just east of Fairmont Avenue in Medford, police said.
Police located Green and the vehicle a short time later. Green was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Green was charged with third degree grand larceny and third degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle. He will be arraigned at a later date.
