SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — San Juan Capistrano motorists may have to slow their roll when driving down certain city roads, after councilmembers voted to reduce speed limits on five major roads at their Tuesday meeting. The decision comes on the heels of a recent traffic survey conducted by the city's public works department. The February traffic survey assessed 71 roadway segments on 34 roadways throughout San Juan Capistrano, according to a city staff report. The following San Juan Capistrano roads will have reduced speed limits: Calle Aspero, from Del Obispo to Peppertree Bend.Current speed limit: 40 miles per hour. New speed limit: 35 miles per hour.Camino Capistrano, from Ortega Highway to Acjachema Street.Current speed limit: 35 miles per hour.New speed limit: 30 miles per hour. Paseo Adelanto, from Del Obispo Street to Ramos Street.Current speed limit: 30 miles per hour.New speed limit: 25 miles per hour. Stonehill Drive, from Camino Capistrano to the western city limit.Current speed limit: 50 miles per hour.New speed limit: 45 miles per hour. Trabuco Creek Road, from Rancho Viejo Road to the easterly end. Current speed limit: 40 miles per hour. New speed limit: 35 miles per hour. In addition to reduced speed limits, city councilmembers adopted speed limits for three new San Juan Capistrano roads not previously assessed by a traffic survey. The new speed limits affect the following San Juan Capistrano roads: Avenida California, from Vista Marina to Camino Las Ramblas. New speed limit: 35 miles per hour.Stallion Ridge, from Avenida La Pata to westerly end.New speed limit: 35 miles per hour.Vista Marina, from Valle Road to Avenida California.New speed limit: 35 miles per hour.According to a city staff report, the traffic survey considers several factors, including: speed, accident records, traffic and roadside conditions, adjacent land use and the safety of bicyclists, pedestrians and other vulnerable groups.
