Description

By Sarah Kuper, WNIN May 3, 2022 Wesselman Woods is asking for volunteers to help rid the nature preserve of invasive species this Saturday. With rain showers and warmer temperatures, plants, particularly invasive plants are growing like weeds in Evansville gardens but also in local wildlife preserves. That's why Wesselman Woods is asking nature enthusiasts who have had enough of weeding their own gardens, to come help wrangle the weeds in the park. Getting rid of invasive species will keep native plants and wildlife flourishing. The event on April 30th from 9am-noon is also organized by the Vanderburgh County Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area or CISMA. Wesselman is seeking around 40 volunteers to come on Saturday. Representatives say to wear long sleeves, bring work gloves and water plus gardening tools like loppers if you have them. In future, the nature society will also host weeding opportunities at Howell Wetlands. WNIN is the NPR/PBS affiliate in Evansville, Indiana.
