PLEASANTON, CA — A math teacher who has served as an educator and mentor in Pleasanton for 32 years was recently honored with the 2022 Teach of the Year award, district officials said.
Arick Little launched his math teaching career at Amador High School and still serves students there today, according to Pleasanton Unified School District.
He was also a steward for the district through the uncertain months of the pandemic as an instructional coach and integration specialist. Little helped the district and his students reimagine education as they shifted to a virtual classroom.
"Congratulations to our 2022 Teacher of the Year, Pleasanton Virtual Academy's Arick Little, who has been instrumental in leading our certificated team in reimagining the ways we support students over the past several years," said Dr. David Haglund, Superintendent of Schools, in a release. "Now, through the Virtual Academy, Mr. Little helps inspire students to discover a love for learning by following their own unique path."
His colleagues have named him a mentor to teachers and students alike. Little has helped to inspire students by leading social activities and taking his students on hikes.
"Arick is an incredible team player," one colleague said, according to a district release. "He is positive and caring with his colleagues, and regularly acts to lead our group in helpful constructive dialogue about our practice, goals and mission as a school. He is always diplomatic and encouraging with everyone he encounters."
