ARLINGTON, VA — An official with the California National Guard charged with indecent exposure in Arlington in March is scheduled to go to trial in Arlington on July 18. U.S. Air Force Col. Jonathan Cartwright, who oversees the California National Guard's statewide United States Property and Fiscal Office of California directorate, was charged with indecent exposure for an incident that took place on March 17 in the Shirlington area, according to the Arlington County Police Department. The indecent exposure incident occurred shortly before 7:30 p.m. on March 17. Police were dispatched to the 4000 block of Campbell Avenue in Shirlington for a report of an indecent exposure inside a business. Upon arrival at an establishment in Shirlington, Arlington County Police officers found Cartwright and took him into custody without incident. About 20 minutes prior to police arriving on the scene, the suspect entered the business and exposed himself to female victims, according to the ACPD. Cartwright, 45, of Gold River, California, was held in the Arlington County Detention Center on the misdemeanor charge and then released on his own recognizance on March 18, according to court records. Cartwright's attorney Karin Riley Porter declined to comment on the case. California National Guard public affairs officials offered to look into the charges against Cartwright in Arlington when contacted by Patch in early April. The office has not responded to the request for more information about his work with the agency and why he was in Arlington on March 17. In late 2021, Cartwright, a native of Porterville, California, received the Secretary of the Army's Mission Partner Award for fiscal year 2021, according to the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. Cartwright's trial on the indecent exposure charge is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on July 18 at the Arlington County Courthouse.
