ORLAND PARK, IL — Former Deputy Police Chief Eric Rossi was approved unanimously by the Orland Park Board of Trustees to take over as chief of Orland Park Police Monday. Rossi, 44, has been serving as the interim chief of the department since Chief Joseph Mitchell officially retired in March. The father of two has been in the department for just under 20 years. According to village officials, Rossi has worked his way up the ranks, beginning as a patrol officer and moving up to become an investigator, commander and finally deputy. "You are going to do a great job," said Orland Park Mayor Keith Pekau to Rossi. "I know we picked the right guy." Rossi, a south suburban native, graduated from the Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command. Prior to joining the force, Rossi got a bachelor's degree from Eastern Illinois University and a master's degree in criminal justice from Lewis University. In 2006, Rossi was awarded Orland Park Police Officer of the Year.
