Nassau Coronavirus: 8th Community Tops 1,000 Cases

NASSAU COUNTY, NY — Long Island has finally made it to phase four of reopening, but people in the area are still contracting the coronavirus. However, the numbers are much smaller than they were in the spring and the number of people dying from the virus is nearly zero. Since the first confirmed case March 5, 44,687 Nassau County residents have been confirmed to have contracted the coronavirus and 2,198 people have died. After a 12-day streak of no deaths, more have been recorded. Three more Nassau residents have died from the coronavirus since Aug. 21. Despite a low infection rate, cases continue to climb. There are now eight Nassau communities that have more than 1,000 confirmed cases, with East Meadow recently hitting that grim milestone. Hempstead, the hardest-hit community, has had more than 2,400 cases. Here are the latest case totals for Nassau communities from data provided by the county.
