Nassau Coronavirus Cases By Community: 58 Hospitalized

NASSAU COUNTY, NY — Long Island is finally reopened and things seem to be returning to normal. But the threat from the coronavirus is still real, and dozens of people are testing positive for the virus each day, even as the death rate drops to nearly zero. Since the first confirmed case March 5, 48,109 Nassau County residents have been confirmed to have contracted the coronavirus and 2,205 people have died. Three Nassau residents have died from the virus in October and 1,170 have tested positive so far this month. According to Nassau County Executive Laura Curran, there were 58 Nassau residents hospitalized as of Wednesday, with 15 in the intensive care unit and nine on ventilators. "Nassau is closely monitoring a small increase in hospitalizations, which can largely be attributed to the spread of infections primarily among high school and college-age residents," Curran said. "Accordingly, the county is working closely with affected communities to halt the spread in its tracks and increase access to rapid testing. We must continue to take this virus seriously, which means wearing our masks, washing hands, keeping physical distance, avoiding large gatherings, and moving activities outside whenever possible." Despite a low infection rate, cases continue to climb. There are nine Nassau communities that have more than 1,000 confirmed cases. Hempstead, the hardest-hit community, has had more than 2,400 cases. Here are the latest case totals for Nassau communities from data provided by the county.
