Nassau Coronavirus Cases By Community: Spread Accelerating

NASSAU COUNTY, NY — While the newest wave of coronavirus infections hasn't hit New York as hard as other states, cases are still on the rise on Long Island and in Nassau County. More than 200 people have been confirmed to have the virus nearly every day in November. Since the first confirmed case in Nassau County March 5, 52,183 residents have contracted the coronavirus and 2,224 people have died, according to county statistics. On Monday, eight Nassau residents died from the virus and 1,879 people tested positive. Ten Nassau communities have reported more than 1,000 cases of the virus, and two more are nearly at that milestone. According to Nassau County Executive Laura Curran, as of Tuesday, the county's positivity rate was 3.4 percent, which is much higher than it was a few weeks ago. There were 96 people hospitalized and 26 in intensive care units as of Tuesday, Curran said. "What happens next will come down to what each of us do in the next few days and weeks," Curran said. "Long Island has a difficult winter ahead, but we'll get through it if we just stick to the basics: wear a mask, practice social distancing, wash hands often."
