PORTLAND, OR — Windows were smashed and buildings were vandalized after a small group broke off from a large rally supporting abortion rights Tuesday evening, according to Portland Police. One person, Luke Anderson, 31, of Portland, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and disorderly burning before being released on his own recognizance. Police said several buildings including a Starbucks had their windows smashed. Burning material and incendiary devices were thrown at the Mark O. Hatfield U.S. Courthouse and at least one other building as well, police said. Police ask that anyone with information on the incidents to contact them at [email protected]. Before the violent group broke off, the rally had attracted hundreds of peaceful people to downtown Portland. It was one many rallies around the country that were held after news came out that the U.S. Supreme Court appears poised to overturn Roe v. Wade, which has guaranteed a woman's right to have an abortion for decades.
