Christine Drazan Leads Republicans In Race For Oregon Governor: Poll

OREGON CITY, OR — With nearly 20 people running in the race for the Republican nomination for governor, it should not be a surprise that not one candidate had a majority of the votes. Not only that, a new poll shows that the leading candidate didn't even crack 20 percent. Christine Drazan of Oregon City, who stepped down earlier this year as the Republican leader of the state House of Representatives, leads in the poll, which Nelson Research released Wednesday. Drazan had 18.9 percent, followed by Bob Tiernan, of Lake Oswego, who had 14 percent. The poll has a 4.3 percent margin of error, which puts the two in a statistical tie. Nelson Research also found that more than one fourth of all poll respondents – 27.4 percent – are still undecided. None of the other 17 other candidates cracked double digits in the poll, which was conducted from April 29 through May 2. Bud Pierce, an oncologist from Salem who lost to Gov. Kate Brown in 2016, almost cracked the double-digit barrier with 9.5 percent. This was the first poll that did not have him leading. Sandy Mayor Stan Pulliam came in fourth with 6.9 percent. Marc Thielman and Kerry Mcquiston tied for 5th with 5.9 percent. No one else had above 4 percent.
