Yeah, I don't know why some of you can't look at this abortion issue through the lens of medicine? People get pretty emotional over the issue because there are spiritual and existential questions raised by the miracle of life, it's beginnings, it's ability to self-replicate, and if that life being judged by a God. Those are not questions that the government can answer. These are things that most people should contemplate on their own, or perhaps talk about with a counselor, a wise elder, or family and friends with open minds. My personal hope for humanity in the 21st century is that we'd finally let go of superstition and start working on facts and logic. But it seems like we're still working through some baggage from the past. So, the medical nessesity of a D&C is something that only should be inside the realm of a Doctor to Patient relationship. An Ectopic pregnancy is a threat to the life of the mother. 150 years ago, this would result in death. Today we can treat ectopic pregnancy. However, abortion as a means of birth control is something that is totally preventable. Unfortunately, the consequences of sex and methods of preventing unwanted pregnancy are not always properly explained to kids these days. Abortion as a treatment for rape is obsolete, so people that say, "except in cases of rape." are uneducated on how it is handled. For a patient in the E.R. presenting with rape, the "morning after pill" is prescribed to chemically prevent pregnancy, and it's impossible to tell if there is a pregnancy in the first 48 hours at all. The government will never solve the abortion issue though. Only the moral character of the people will solve this problem! Government trying to prohibit what amounts to a medical procedure will result in a black market, just like anything else they try to prohibit. Attempts to legislate morality created the Al Capones of the world. Now, The 10th amendment does give the states the power to write their own laws as to things undefined by the constitution. But that doesn't mean that you're going to get intelligent laws. Some states will write laws based on superstition. Other states might do better. But the way I see it, 50 different States with 50 different options seems like a better solution than the federal government making choices for the entire population as a whole. The way things are today are not the way things should be under a constitutional government. We have drifted so far away from what the Founders intended. Most of you look to your government for answers while a small minority of us look for answers from within. We have elections, and the ability to change things for the better, but are we ever going to get the right people that know when to have some restraint? Is our goal to take over the whole world? If it is, do we not realize that it didn't end well for the last country that tried? We send the same people to Congress for 30 years. Why do we do that?!?!? Can we please stop that?????
