SAN LEANDRO, CA — A young man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder for allegedly hitting a senior in the head with a skateboard Monday, according to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office. Deputies responded at about 8 p.m. Monday to the 16200 block of East 14th Street in unincorporated San Leandro after someone reported an assault. Deputies located a 75-year-old man with injuries to his face and head, sheriff's spokesman Lt. Ray Kelly said. Rafael Bentancourt, 26, was allegedly leaving the area and trying to hide a skateboard, Kelly said. Deputies detained Betancourt without any trouble. Kelly alleges based on video evidence that the attack by Betancourt was unprovoked. The victim is in a hospital in serious condition, Kelly said. Betancourt was also arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse.
