You can help write a happy ending.The Department of Social Services invites the community to join the effort to find forever homes for every child in foster care in Mecklenburg County. Registration is open for the agency's seventh adoption conference, Adoption: The Journey to Permanence: Manifesting the Vision. Friday, May 20, 2022 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Hilton Charlotte University Place, 8629 JM Keynes Drive, Charlotte, NC 28262 Registration is open through May 9. The 2022 conference is a hybrid format where attendees can attend virtually or in-person. Limited seating is established due to COVID-19 protocols.The conference promotes a greater awareness and understanding of adoption through workshops, panel discussions and an information fair where participants can learn more about adoption and parenting issues. It will also highlight the collaborative efforts of professionals, community partners and foster/adoptive families in creating permanence for children in need of forever families.This year's keynote speakers will share their experiences with adoption: Debbie B. Riley, CEO and co-founder of the Center for Adoption Support and Education (C.A.S.E.), a nonprofit meeting the mental health needs of adoptive, foster and kinship families. Darryl McDaniels, rapper with Run DMC, author and adoptee. The conference will feature more than 500 future adoptees, past adoptees, foster parents, adoptive parents, adoption professionals and advocates, and community leaders.
