DUNEDIN, FL — A Pinellas County Sheriff's Office senior administrative assistant has been fired after being arrested for driving under the influence over the weekend. At 7:39 p.m., Saturday, deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash at Tampa Road and Washington Avenue in Oldsmar. According to deputies, 54-year-old Lorraine Daly was traveling west on Tampa Road when she swerved to avoid a crash, crossed over a cement median and into oncoming traffic. A second vehicle, traveling east on Tampa Road, sideswiped the passenger side of Daly's vehicle to avoid a head-on collision. Deputies say there were no injuries but said Daly showed signs of impairment. They said she had bloodshot, glassy eyes, was unsteady and had the odor of alcohol on her breath. Daly agreed to perform field sobriety tests, but she performed poorly. She then submitted a breath sample that indicated a blood-alcohol content of .238/.243. Florida considers a blood-alcohol content of .08 legally drunk. She was charged with one count of driving under the influence with property damage. Daly was hired by the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office on Oct. 3, 1988. She worked as a senior administrative assistant at the sheriff's North District Station in Dunedin. In keeping with sheriff's office policy, Daly was fired after her arrest.
