Description
WELLESLEY, MA — The Wellesley School Building Committee voted on Thursday night to build a new elementary school on the Hardy school site.
The town and school community have been debating which of the elementary schools should be rebuilt. Wellesley has three schools that need to be brought up to modern standards: Hunnewell Elementary School, Upham Elementary School and Hardy Elementary School.
Work to improve Hunnewell already started but the community wasn't sure if Upham or Hardy should be next on the list.
Thursday night's meeting was showed School Building Committee members were just as close in their votes as the community, with a 7-6 vote in favor of the Hardy school being rebuilt, but that isn't the end of the decision.
The SBC's recommendation still has to be approved by the School Committee and Board of Selectmen and, when the time comes, the stat School Building Authority.
