Let's Go Birding (Open Community)
Join Snow Peak and Samantha DeJarnett for a birding excursion through the Smith and Bybee Wetlands Natural Area. Gather with a diverse group of outdoor enthusiasts to learn about birding, land acknowledgments, and healing through nature. Here at Snow Peak, we share a similar mission centered around a deeply held belief that time spent in nature has the power to heal, cultivate happiness and build connections. Snow Peak seeks to restore humanity by gathering people to experience the rhythms of nature. Collective liberation outside is created through inclusivity and acknowledging how to foster these connections. Through community gatherings in the presence of nature, we plan to strive to create a healing, safe, and educational environment for Black, Indigenous and People of Color.
About Samantha DeJarnett:
Sam DeJarnett is a birder of 4 years and the creator/host of The Always Be Birdin’ Podcast, a podcast that provides platforms for Black, Brown and Indiginous birders and conservationists. The podcast uses the lenses of Critical Race Theory to challenge the narratives of birding and conservation and pushes for innovative ways to dismantle the pillars of racism these fields are built upon. Recently, she has started Always Be Birdin’ Eco Tours which exists to take Black, Brown and Indigenous individuals and groups out for intentional birding experiences. Sam's motto is simple : "We bird as joy. We bird as protest. We bird as a community. We bird for collective liberation. And no matter who you are or where you are, you can Always Be Birdin'."
