Realistic Chalk Art Crops Up In Clearwater For Chalktober Fest

CLEARWATER, FL — Some of the artwork is so realistic, you'd be inclined to brake to a sudden stop if you encountered while driving down the road. Amplify Clearwater Chamber board chairman G. Scott Goyer said the artists participating in this year's Clearwater Chalktober Fest have outdone themselves this year, creating a series of three-dimensional chalk art masterpieces that are so realistic, visitors can't resist bending over to touch them. "We are so grateful to be part of the amazing Clearwater community and are proud to be sponsoring Amplify Clearwater Chamber's Chalktober Fest," Goyer said. Artist Erik Greenawalt kicked the event off by creating a 3D giant stethoscope in the shape of a heart in front of Doyle Tower at BayCare Health System's Morton Plant Hospital, 300 Pinellas St., just in time for the festival's opening weekend Oct. 1. BayCare is the sponsor of this year's Chalktober Fest. The fest takes place every weekend through Nov. 1 with a celebration planned for Oct. 15 from 5 to 7 p.m. in downtown Clearwater with live music, live chalk drawing, food and drinks and shopping opportunities. The five-weekend event is designed to not only showcase talented artist but the businesses that make up Clearwater's diverse commercial districts. Each participating business is partnered with a local or visiting artist who will chalk a masterpiece in front of the business. Oct. 8-11 will focus on South Clearwater Beach. Oct. 15-18 will highlight Downtown Clearwater. Oct. 22-25 will be Stone Crab Weekend and will feature the commercial area in North Clearwater Beach. And the final weekend, Oct. 29 to Nov. 1, which coincides with Halloween, will be a leisurely socially distant event in the Central Clearwater Beach area around Pier 60.
