How do we market our programs to increase not only enrollment and retention but engagement in our programs? Come and check out fresh approaches to teaching band! We will cover everything from music fundamentals for students of ALL levels to recruitment, retention, and activation. We all know that strong instrumental fundamentals are where the magic happens in our programs, but let’s be honest, our personal knowledge of all the fundamentals needed for each instrument has some gaps. In addition to our pedagogical knowledge, it is even more important than ever to be able to refresh our approach to marketing our programs to our students and community. Curriculum Refresh from the Beginning This series of sessions will feature master educators and will cover topics for all ability levels. Chris Meredith and Alicia DeSoto are from Flower Mound, Texas, and are co-authors of Musical Mastery. Musical Mastery sessions include: Practical Theory and Literacy Rhythm Curriculum and Assessment Musical Mastery Fundamentals for Woodwinds Musical Mastery Fundamentals for Brass What to Do With 2nd Year Players? The Salem Hills 7th Grade Band under the direction of Daniel Stolworthy will be a lab band for a solid and fresh method for 2nd-year players. A session with the authors of Make It Happen! (Rayne Ellison and Steve Kellermann) will explain how this method can refresh the learning process for 2nd-year players. has Where to Start with Vertical Alignment or How Does My Vertical Alignment Compare with Other Strong Programs? Vertical Alignment in Your Cluster Round Table Discussion with Mitch Hall and Chandra Young of the Cedar Valley High School Cluster in Saratoga Springs Why do Band? Rethinking our Program Brand and marketing. The past few years have hit enrollment in programs across the State. How do we market our programs to increase not only enrollment and retention but engagement in our programs? We will learn from a corporate marketing strategist and brand development expert, Janelle Page. Janelle will merge corporate marketing and brand development with band recruitment, retention, and community outreach. This will be AMAZING! What is CANVA, and How Do I Use it to Accentuate my Program? CANVA is a powerful design tool that allows teachers to create visually stunning designs. We will have an hour and a half to learn/play with this software and increase our ability to create fabulous fliers, programs, and marketing materials for our program. This training will be taught by Dana Rimington of Davis School District and is an extension of the concepts taught in the Marketing Course.
