Description
CLEARWATER, FL — Construction is set to begin Tuesday, Jan. 7, on the City of Clearwater's project to replace the force main along Gulf Boulevard on Sand Key. The force main is part of the system that moves wastewater from beach homes and businesses to the city's Marshall Street Water Reclamation Facility, located on the mainland and north of downtown Clearwater.
Due to repeated problems with the collection line, the city determined that a full replacement of the main line was necessary. The construction period is expected to last about seven to eight months.
Construction will begin at Lift Station 45 (by the Coast Guard station) and will extend toward the Sand Key Bridge. The project will use a method called directional drilling to minimize impacts to Sand Key residents, businesses and entrances to properties. There will be no road closures – only lane shifts – to minimize impacts for those living on or passing through the Sand Key area.
A public meeting was held in October to share project details with the community
