Description

A series of stories, topics and themes that can at once appear familiar yet alien depending on your perspective and lived experiences. See More Than... Shorts 2 presents: SILT (Dir. Emilie Upczak; USA; 10 min) - A native botanist, grieving the death of a beloved aunt, travels alone to northern Mexico, where she is nourished by images of the last trip they took together traversing the Colorado River. DURANGO 550 (Dir. Nathan Ward; USA; 27 min) - Explores the excavation of a 1000+ year old village near Durango, Colorado and the ancestral people's involvement in this archaeology. The ancient village was directly in the path of the US Highway 550 reroute, and had to be studied before the highway was built. The film offers an in-depth look at modern contract archaeology, Colorado's native people and how their ancestors are getting increasingly involved in the field, bringing to it a much more in-depth study and understanding of archaeology in the southwest. FOLLOW THE FLOW (Dir. Alexandra Lockhart; USA; 13 min) - Follow the Flow, an environmental dance film, focuses on bringing awareness to the water crisis of the Colorado River. A dancer, rawly integrated into the environment, illustrates a symbiotic relationship with the river, while exemplifying how paramount it is to remember humans are intertwined with this river in everyday life. Colorado Experience: NATIVE HORSES (Dir. Julie Jackson; USA; 28 min) - How long have horses been domesticated in the Americas? Scholars have long said it’s since 1680 when the Pueblo people held the only successful uprising against a colonizing power in North American history. But Native American oral tradition puts the date long before the Spanish and new archeological studies confirm this ancient Indigenous knowledge. Meet the historic Spanish Mustangs of Wild Horse Mesa, just 2.5 hours south of Salida. Film tickets available for pick-up at the SteamPlant Box Office beginning Monday, May 9 and up until the start of this screening.
