Stamford Woman Charged In Connection With Playground Crash: Police

STAMFORD, CT — A Stamford woman has been charged after police said she drove her car through a chainlink fence and crashed into a Boys & Girls Club playground on Stamford's West Side on May 1. An 11-year-old child who was on the playground at the time suffered minor injuries. Lyneel Mikel, 54, was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and operating without insurance, Sgt. Jeffrey Booth of the Stamford Police Department said. Booth noted that additional charges could be coming based on toxicology reports. At 3:15 p.m. on Sunday, a white four-door sedan driven by Mikel was going through the parking lot at Lione Park and heading towards the exit, police said. "It looks like the person driving the car stepped on the gas instead of the brake pedal and drove through a chainlink fence into where the playground area is," Booth said. "There was a kid on the swings, and [the car] hit the swingset." Officers are investigating the incident.
