WAYLAND, MA — Wayland voters set new records in 2020 compared to other recent presidential elections, including the highest turnout dating back to 2004, according to Secretary of State data. A total of 85.02 percent of Wayland's 10,833 registered voters cast a ballot in the 2020 presidential election, beating the previous record set in the 2012 contest between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. Also in 2020, the share of votes for a Democratic presidential candidate was the highest since 2004 — and the lowest for a Republican. Between 2016 and 2020, the GOP share of votes for president shrunk from 19.56 percent overall to about 18.25 percent, according to turnout data. On the other side, 78.08 percent of votes went to Biden — the first time a Democrat has earned more than three-quarters of the town-wide vote dating back to 2004.
