POINT PLEASANT, NJ — A Point Pleasant Borough middle school teacher has been named an Applebee's Above and "Bee"yond Teacher, one of four in New Jersey to receive the honor.
Lynn Thompson, a language arts teacher at Memorial Middle School, will receive a $500 check to use for her classroom an an end-of-the-year class party sponsored by Applebee's, according to an announcement by the Point Pleasant Schools.
Thompson was nominated by student Meredith Killi, whose essay, " 'Class of Life,' highlights the joy, encouragement, and unforgettable lessons Mrs. Thompson instills in her students," the news release said.
"Her room is the one that laughter is always bursting out of, and when in her classroom, you can't help but smile," Meredith wrote in her essay. "You can tell she deeply cares about each and every one of her students, treating them all as if her own family. Mrs. Thompson teaches much more than what you'd expect from any normal English class, Mrs. Thompson teaches lessons her students carry throughout a lifetime."
Thompson said she plans to $500 check to expand her classroom library, and is looking forward to the end-of-the-year party.
"I am so honored to be recognized for this award," Thompson said. "It means the world to me that Meredith took the time to write such a tribute."
"Teaching is part of who I am," she said. "I truly love what I do every day. The students are the reason for everything. They inspire me to be a better human being. This profession gives so much more than I can ever give back."
