MAYWOOD, NJ —The Maywood Town Council proclaimed April 30 "Dominic Brunetto Day" to raise awareness of kidney disease and help a resident find a living kidney donor.
Brunetto has been on the national kidney donor list for more than three years, according to a news release. He has lived in Maywood for 10 years and does dialysis in his home state, while being on the transplant list through NYU Langone.
The Maywood Knights of Columbus and NYU Langone Transplant Institute, as well as many community members, gathered at Maywood Memorial Park on Saturday to support him.
The Knights of Columbus and Maywood Public Schools sponsored a poster contest for students; Aaryan Manrao won first place.
"It is heartwarming to see the town come together to support Dominic and help find a donor that can improve his quality of life," said Robin Layman RN BSN, a kidney nurse navigator at NYU Langone Transplant Institute. "We are always in need of organ donors and events such as this can help Dominic, as well as many others on the national kidney waiting list. We encourage people to consider becoming an organ donor to help friends, family, and others in need."
Those who wish to learn more about donating a kidney for Brunetto may call the NYU Langone living transplant team at (212) 263-3621 or click here.
