WAYLAND, MA — A Wayland restaurant failed a liquor compliance check last week when a bartender served to underage buyers, according to Wayland police. The Board of Selectmen will hold a hearing to determine if the 110 Grill, 171 Commonwealth Road, violated the terms of its liquor license. The compliance checks were conducted last week at 14 stores and restaurants in Wayland. Just before 5 p.m. on Oct. 28, two people under 21 working with a Wayland detective were sent into the 110 Grill and were able to buy two beers without getting carded, according to a police report. The detective confronted the bartender about the violation, and discovered that her TIPS alcohol certification was not current — and that the restaurant did not have a record of other bartenders' certifications. In August, the Massachusetts Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission issued a warning to the license-holders at Wayland Variety and Deli, 70 Boston Post Road, for selling to an underage buyer.
