WAYLAND, MA — The coronavirus pandemic has brought a scary and strange new way of life to Massachusetts and the world. But one bright spot has been the many stories of people rising up to do something to help others get through these tough times. Patch is trying to highlight the stories of everyday heroes who did what they could to help. This submission comes from Kylie Williams of Wayland, who nominated her daughter, Jade Williams, 9. Proactive approach to COVID-19 and willingness to selflessly help adults during a worldwide crisis What's one thing you want everyone to know about your hero? She is a 9-year-old girl motivated to help others. She answered a call for help from a post on the Nextdoor app cutting and sewing 10 masks to donate to healthcare workers in one afternoon. The fabric she used was from her own sewing box that had previously been hand-picked for her future projects — she paid for this with her own money but was happy to donate it. After this, she had requests for more masks and happily obliged. She also painted a huge sign to put up on our fence on Old Connecticut Path thanking nurses and doctors for their services during the pandemic. It is still there and the message is still as current as it ever was. She would like to add teachers to that sign also.
