For consistently available "full-time" captains, for last minute cancellations (not re-sold), for bad weather days, or slow/unbooked weeks (less than 2 booked dates per week), we pay 2 guaranteed days per week at $100/day. Note that 2 hours of dockside work is required each of the 2 days, instead of expected charters (or take the day off without pay). BONUSES: Year-end and end-of-summer bonus (after 6-months of service) is calculated based on number of charters you take during the season. Last year average was $500 each season. Bonuses also given for consistent great TripAdvisor or Yelp reviews. OUR CHARTERS and CAPTAINS: Popular sandbar, sightsee, snorkel boats need a consistent, reliable, personable, & captain on a variety of 21ft-26ft boats. Typical start time is around 9:30AM and last return time is 30 minutes after sunset, year-around. Captain will need to have fun, positive interactions with customers. Must be able to lift paddleboards and standard-size coolers with ice onto the boat. Boats must remain clean and well-maintained. You will have to be proactive to help us keep them that way, cleaning well after charters, keeping them organized, and reporting boat or customer issues, damage, loss immediately. You must be a true host for the guests. You must consider yourself a team-member, not simply an individual employee. We will also empower you to make rational decisions when on the water and appreciate input to make our charters even better. Dockside help is required - Salaried captain will be picked first for booked charters, but when salaried captain is not booked on open charter dates, we will ask you to keep the dock organized, pick up or drop off marine-related or charter-related items, basic upkeep of boats, or to train on other boats and help as an organizer, host, or mate on multi-boat charters when you are not assigned as primary Captain (very rare - busy dates only - maybe 5 to 10 times per year). TRIP SCHEDULE PER YEAR Low season -cold water months- average 10 trips per month (mid Nov through mid February) with the majority during holiday weeks include Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years weeks. Peak warm season (March, April, June) average 26 trips per month (some days having 2 charter trips). Months not listed above average 12-15 trips per month. Weekends, spring/summer holidays and dates surrounding holidays are required work-dates, as this is our busiest time (excluding Thanksgiving day, Christmas every day, and New Years day - unless you want to work for bonus $). 2 Weekly days-off (if desired), with at least one being flexible. We can schedule one fixed day off per week (Tuesdays preferred). Plus we can provide an extra flex-day Mon, Wed or Thurs each week, if needed (depends which are booked first). Vacations/time off should be planned in advance, during low season months, and on less popular days/dates. JOB REQUIREMENTS * Valid USCG 6-pack license – Must provide prior to interview * MINIMUM 3 YEARS with license – cannot insure you otherwise * Snorkel trip experience * LOCAL (already living near Islamorada, Key Largo, or Marathon) * Must be a problem-solver and rule-follower. We train you to follow our routes and our business “formula”. We give you guidelines to follow, but you have to be able to work through problems on your own in a safe, courteous, and professional manner on the boat, with customers, and at the dock. * Clean criminal/legal record * No drugs. No drinking (before or during charters). No smoking aboard the boat (smoke-break at the sandbar) * Expertise in maneuvering/docking/anchoring single engine boats * Customer interaction and in-water activities (sandbar/snorkel) are required. Great to have customer service experience for bigger tips and repeat guests. * Great to have experience in the Islamorada bayside, sandbar, and oceanside reef area between markers 88 and 82 (our route)…. BUT not a deal breaker. We will ride-along until you are familiar. * Great to have your own boat that may be plugged into our “fleet” periodically… extra $$. HOW TO APPLY Send a message through Craig's list to apply, and we will email you back. Include 3 or 4 lines about your most recent experience (last 3 to 5 years) as a Captain AND YOUR PHONE NUMBER. No need for a formal resume yet. Describe types of boats and charters you have run (& activities on the boat). Describe any customer service experience in your career (as captain or otherwise). Tell us where are you living now. If already working somewhere, let us know your plans for part time work with them or only working for us. If you qualify, we will respond by TEXT to the number you provide. You will be asked for a photo of your valid USCG license and a face-to-face interview date within a couple of days.
