NORTH JERSEY — Three of the five candidates hoping to challenge Rep. Mikie Sherrill for her Congressional seat will participate in a candidates forum. The virtual debate will take place at 7 p.m. May 11 on the YouTube channel of the Morristown Area League of Women Voters. Participating candidates include Tobias Anderson, Alexander Halter and Ruth McAndrew. Tayfun Selen and Paul DeGroot aren't attending because of scheduling conflicts, according to the League of Women Voters. Primary Election Day takes place June 7 in New Jersey. The election attracted a crowded Republican field for New Jersey's 11th Congressional District. Sherrill, the incumbent Democrat, does not have a primary challenger. District residents can submit questions for candidates until 6 p.m. Monday via this Google form. Questions must be issue-related and relevant to the office of Congress in the 11th District. Mikie Sherrill In NJ-11 Primary The Morris County Chamber of Commerce and three chapters of the League of Women Voters of New Jersey will co-host the debate. The League of Women Voters will live-stream the forum and keep it available for viewing afterwards on its YouTube channel. Sherrill flipped the seat blue in the 2018 elections. Previously, no Democrat held the seat since Joseph Minish in 1985. Rodney Frelinghuysen, a Republican, represented the district from 1995-2019, opting not to run for re-election in 2018. The district covers almost all of Morris County and parts of Essex, Passaic and Sussex Counties. Thanks for reading. Have a news tip? Email [email protected].
