PORTLAND, OR —A father sued Portland Public Schools in March alleging that the district was negligent and failed to look after his daughter, who fell from monkey bars at Woodstock Elementary School in 2020 and suffered injuries as a result. The girl, who was not identified, broke both of her arms and ended up with a deviated septum, according to Robert Kobus' lawsuit filed March 10 in Multnomah County Circuit Court. The girl's current condition was not clear. The suit seeks $745,000, including $20,000 for medical expenses already incurred; $25,000 for surgeries that are anticipated; and $700,000 for the loss of educational opportunities, pain and suffering. Kobus' daughter was at school on March 1o, 2020, when a school staff member told her to climb across the bars and then walked away, according to the suit. While unattended, the child fell, the suit said. The district has not responded to the lawsuit. Patch reached out to Portland Public Schools for comment.
