Watertown Non-Profit Received Over $2M In CARES Act Funding

WATERTOWN, MA — The federal government has sent more than $2 million to a Watertown non-profit for coronavirus relief efforts in Watertown since Congress passed the CARES Act in March. Pathfinder International, a Watertown-based non-profit focused on reproductive health, family planning, HIV/AIDS prevention and maternal health, is one of four companies in the town to receive funding from the CARES Act for COVID-19 relief efforts. Pathfinder was awarded the funds by the agency for international development for professional, scientific and technical services, according to the Federal Procurement Data System. Pathfinder International received three contracts totaling over $2 million. Bright Horizon's Children Centers received a $91,200 contract from the Department of Veteran's Affairs for daycare services. Cyprotex, a biotechnology company based in Cambridge, was also given a $17,600 contract from the National Institutes of Health for testing laboratories. A Watertown-based civil engineering company, Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, was also awarded a contract by the Federal Highway Administration for professional, scientific and technical services. Congress passed the $2 trillion Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act on March 27. In addition to direct aid to people who lost their jobs and the Paycheck Protection Program to help small businesses avoid laying off workers, the act included direct government spending for fighting the coronavirus.
