WESTERN SPRINGS, IL – A 14-year-old student at Lyons Township High School's South Campus is the second person arrested in connection with an attack on a girl in a hallway, police said Tuesday afternoon. The boy, a Countryside resident, was charged with disorderly conduct. In a news release, police said he recorded the attack on the 14-year-old girl and publicly disseminated the footage, causing alarm and a disturbance to the public. Police said the investigation continues, even though the two youths have been charged. On Monday evening, a 16-year-old girl was arrested on a charge of misdemeanor battery. The student, a La Grange resident, was charged after an investigation stemming from her role in the incident, which resulted in an injury to a 14-year-old girl, police said. The investigation confirmed the 16-year-old confronted the 14-year-old, struck her multiple times and pulled her by the hair while she was on the floor, police said. The attack resulted in visible injuries that required medical treatment, police said. The 16-year-old's actions were intentional and without legal justification, police said. The attack happened about 1 p.m. Wednesday in a school hallway, Police Chief Brian Budds told Patch earlier Monday. He called it a "disturbing event, no doubt about it." Budds said violence at South Campus is rare, but taken seriously when it happens.
