MISSION VIEJO, CA — The City of Mission Viejo is in the process of selecting a new Chief of Police Services, after current Chief Of Police Services Captain Quyen Vuong was transferred to the Orange County Sheriff's Department's headquarters to head up a special unit, a city news release said. Vuong, who has managed the city's police services since 2018, was honored at Tuesday's city council meeting for his outstanding service to the Mission Viejo community. During the meeting, Mission Viejo Mayor Wendy Bucknum spoke about some of Vuong's many accomplishments for the community. "Captain Vuong's efforts read like a stories book," Mayor Bucknum said during the meeting. "Captain Vuong set a shining example to all with his selfless work ethic and attention to detail, and Mission Viejo is a better place because of his commitment, professionalism, unyielding support, and pride in serving the City and its citizens." Vuong responsible for the local management and deployment of patrol, investigations, emergency management, school safety, special enforcement teams and public safety for major city events. "He worked to implement the Take Me Home Program; increased employment of patrol rifles; and the transition of less lethal shotguns to less lethal munition launchers. He identified budgetary savings by updating staff and vehicle deployments, among other efforts. He also expanded Mission Viejo Police Services' social media presence," Bucknum said during the meeting. A new Chief of Police Services for the City of Mission Viejo is expected to be announced sometime this week, the city said.
