He will use boxes for scratching posts. During car rides Smokey will cry. When given a bath or trimming her nails Smokey will struggle to get away. Smokey enjoys being brushed and held. ENRICHMENT NOTES:6/29/20Hiding in his den on approach. Hisses softly at the assessor when spoken softly. Kept interaction short to avoid escalation. Needs time to adjust. 6/30/20Sitting upright by the front. Sniffs valerian scented toy given and starts to play with it and roll around. Gave some treats after. Petting was not attempted to have a positive interaction. Seems calmer today. He engaged and greeted the assessor with tail high. Smokey ate the squeeze up treat offered. He enjoyed gentle petting along the head and back, leaning in for cheek rubs. Smokey started to play and roll around with a catnip toy given. Smokey seems to be a social, affectionate, calm and playful cat. He might take time to adjust to his new home as he seemed agitated when arrived to the shelter. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for cat parents with either an average amount of cat experience or demonstrate a basic understanding of typical cat behavior.
