Press release from the Village of Palatine:
On the afternoon of 4/24/2022, a male subject tried to gain access to a home in the 600 block of S. Williams Dr. by stating he was a Village of Palatine employee. The male told the homeowner he needed to test the water from the kitchen sink due to the possibility of contamination. The homeowner did not allow the man to come in, however he tried to walk in. The resident yelled and pushed the man out and called Palatine Police. The resident stated the man had a lanyard on with some type of ID.
The Village of Palatine Public Works Department would only need to come into your home if you had contacted them and requested a visit, or in an emergency.
Our Public Works personnel drive clearly marked red trucks, wear shirts with "Palatine Public Works" displayed on the front, and carry an official Village of Palatine Identification that will be shown at the homeowner's request.
If you are ever in doubt, please call 911 and allow the Police Department to verify the identity and purpose of someone at your door or on your property.
