NEW LENOX, IL — Those who are interested in sprucing up their gardens and helping a good cause can do both at the Lincoln-Way Transition Program's flower and plant sale. The flower and plant sale is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the greenhouse at Lincoln-Way Central High School, 1801 E. Lincoln Highway. The greenhouse is located off Schoolhouse Road, just north of Lincoln Highway. Students in the Lincoln-Way Transition Program began preparing for the sale in January, said special services teacher Josh Kreske. All that hard work resulted in an abundance of flowers and plants that people can purchase, including: Petunias, zinnias, marigolds, impatiens, gazania, dianthus and ageratum - $3 for a six-pack, or $15 per flat.Geraniums - $4 per six-pack, or $21 per flat.Cong coleus, grape tomatoes, big boy tomatoes and bell peppers - $4 per potted plant.Wandering Jew, spider plants and citronella plants - $8 per potted plant. There are about 55 students ages 18-22 in the Lincoln-Way Transition Program, Kreske said. The program is designed to help students with special needs develop skills in daily living, community engagement and work. "[The program] tries to prepare students for when they exit our program so that they can be as independent as possible," Kreske said. For more information, contact [email protected].
