JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Police Department announced that a 33-year-old woman was rescued Tuesday night after she jumped into the Des Plaines River at the McDonough Street Bridge. The dramatic incident unfolded around 7:05 p.m. Officers learned of a possibly suicidal woman who jumped into the Des Plaines River from the bridge, according to police spokesman Dwayne English. Officers found the woman in the water near the west bank of the Des Plaines River, north of McDonough Street. Several Joliet police and members of the Joliet Fire Department worked together to help get the woman out of the water. She was taken by a Joliet Fire Department ambulance to Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center for an evaluation, English said.
