Here are the top three stories today in Lakewood: In a battle for Congress, four Republicans from Ohio are running in the 9th District to unseat Democrat Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur in the primaries today. The 9th District stretches from Cleveland to Toledo. The GOP needs to gain five seats in the House and one in the Senate to take control next year. (Spectrum News 1)The union representing Cuyahoga County sheriff's deputies was shocked by Sheriff Christopher Viland's recent resignation. Viland is stepping down just after a year of being in the position and takes effect on May 22. Viland is the third sheriff to resign since 2019. (News 5 Cleveland)The founders of Wee Care Closet, a nonprofit about 20 minutes outside of Lakewood that buys deeply discounted items and then donates them to the community, are making an impact in northeast Ohio. Tammy Koleski primarily funds the nonprofit but says her sister, Pam, is the one who is skilled at finding the bulk deals. The ladies started bargain shopping during the pandemic and have since expanded their giving to more than a dozen districts and groups in the area.
