2 Chicago Heights Homes Get Major Upgrades During National Rebuild Day

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — Two Chicago Heights homes have been renovated through a Cook County program that aims to help elderly and disabled residents complete home repairs. According to Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, almost 2,000 homes have been repaired as part of the Rebuilding Together program which was started in 1991. This year, two Chicago Heights homes received the services which were completed by local tradespeople. Oftentimes, repairs include accessibility upgrades such as new railings, doorknobs, bars and carpet. "I am grateful to all the Cook County employees and other volunteers who gave their time and expertise to help two of our neighbors," said President Preckwinkle in a statement. "We are pleased to help these women, who have been so impactful in their communities and families, to have a safe and accessible space to live." Chicago Heights Mayor David Gonzalez also joined Preckwinkle Saturday in rounding up volunteers to complete more minor, cosmetic or electrical projects on 16 other homes in the city. The entire National Rebuilding Day was sponsored in part by Rebuilding Together and other south suburban businesses and unions.
