‘Neighbors Who Care’ Unveils New Van to Provide Support to East Valley Seniors Local Non-Profit Acquires New Van Through Intel Matching Grant and Community Fundraising Chandler, Arizona (April 20, 2022) - Neighbors Who Care, a Chandler-based non-profit dedicated to assisting seniors in Sun Lakes and South Chandler, surprised more than 100 Neighbors Who Care volunteers by unveiling their new van at a volunteer appreciation event. The new van was funded by a $25,000 matching grant provided by Intel in addition to funds raised by the community, including additional grants from Dignity Health, Sundt, Greater Sun Lakes Community Foundation, and Lions International. “Neighbors Who Care is so grateful to Intel and for each and every person who contributed to making this new van a reality,” said Sheryl Keeme, Executive Director at Neighbors Who Care. “With this new van, we will be able to continue our mission to help older adults maintain their independence.” At the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, the 18-year-old van previously used by Neighbors Who Care volunteers became inoperable. The loss of the van caused the volunteer operations to come to a halt. Without transportation, services that would typically be offered, such as driving seniors to non-emergency medical appointments, were on pause until a new van could be secured. During regular community outreach related to nearby construction, Intel employees learned about the need for a new van and wanted to help. The company then offered a matching grant of $25,000 to support the purchase of a new van for Neighbors Who Care. The nonprofit was then able to leverage this commitment to raise additional funds from the community. “Intel’s success depends on the health of our communities, and when we heard about the need for a new van for Neighbors Who Care, we knew we had to find a way to help,” said Jennifer Sanchez, Intel Arizona Community Affairs Manager. “The single purchase of this van will help hundreds of older adults in the greater Chandler area live more independent lives for years to come.” “Adding this van to our efforts will change the game for us, this van allows us to transport our clients to and from stores, doctor’s offices, and other appointments,” said Ramon Rubio, a volunteer at Neighbors Who Care. “By accompanying our clients on these outings, we are able to build meaningful relationships to help them thrive while maintaining their independence and autonomy.” For more information about Neighbors Who Care and its services, visit neighborswhocare.com.
