Description

WATERTOWN, MA — Watertown Animal Control is investigating after a cat was found dead and possibly drowned in a trash bag near the Charles River. The the bag was found on Jan. 30 and the Watertown ACO is calling on residents who might have information. On Jan. 30 a resident was walking along the Charles, on the California Street side of the river near the dam, when they spotted a trash bag with the dead cat inside. The cat appeared emaciated — the trash bag was weighed down by a large rock and found about 8 feet from shore, according to Watertown's ACO. In a Facebook post calling on the community for tips, Watertown's ACO said she was not sure whether the cat was dead when it was thrown into the river. She added that she needs a lead or more information before she can get approval for a necropsy/ autopsy. The cat was tortoiseshell with a unique tan marking strip from forehead to nose. Anyone with information about suspicious activity in the area during the week of Jan. 30 or information about the cat can contact Watertown ACO Karen O'Reilly at 617-972-6446 #2 or at [email protected].
