the original ad: “Have an unused bedroom available for practice space. Minimal fee unless I really dislike the music then normal rates. I like when I hear music rehearsals coming from wherever nearby and can offer space for a joyful noise.” response: “Have an unused bedroom available for practice space.” How many people have a bedroom that’s large enough to house an entire band? I’m assuming this ad was written by some out of touch rich person living in a mansion. “Minimal fee unless I dislike the music, then normal rates.” You’re seriously going to increase the fee if you dislike the music? Do you honestly think anyone is going to stick around after they realize you hate their music? On top of that, you’re going to ask them for more money as a form of punishment? I really hope this ad was written by a troll, but my instincts are telling me once again that the author is an out of touch rich person who wants to use a band for their own social experiment. I’m reminded of all the times Mr. Fischoeder put Bob Belcher up to all sorts of antics, because regular people are ants to him. “I like when I hear music rehearsals.” Why? Rehearsals are time for musicians to iron out the mundane details, and a lot of that is a laborious process which often leads to conflict. They’re a pain in the ass. If you’re not in a particular group, and you’re just a fan, be grateful that you don’t have to take deal with this part of it. You can literally just sit back and enjoy the music itself. Do you honestly think Western Massachusetts is such a competitive scene that bands are so desperate for practice spaces that they have to audition for them? That’s what it seems like you’re advertising: an audition for a practice space. This isn’t Austin, this isn’t Nashville, no one’s paying the venue to play a show, and bands can find reasonably priced practice spaces in a warehouse in Holyoke without having to deal with any of this nonsense. GTFO with this insane advertisement.
