A construction foreman is the person who at any one time ensures that the crew at a construction site is carrying out their tasks well and everything is going according to plan. He/ She easily gains the respect of his/her colleagues at the site. A foreman reports to the Project Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent. He/ She has the responsibility to oversee the work of the workers to ensure that it is being carried out per plan. He/ She is responsible for checking the materials and ensures the safety of the construction site. Travel required. Education Requirements: High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Required. Experience Requirements: 2 years or greater - Supervision experience over carpenters and laborers on a commercial construction project. Experience supervising all aspects of construction projects for various types’ pf clients and project delivery methods. Essential Functions The prime responsibility is to ensure that workers are carrying on work per schedule. He/ She has the responsibility to check on the work schedule with construction supervisor. Assessing job priorities and assigning employees to appropriate locations. He/ She is responsible for allocating the duties to the workers according to their capabilities. Making sure employees have tools and equipment needed for job in order to ensure a good output. He/ She has to be very sure about the safety precautions that they are properly implemented during construction. Communicating with the supervisor regarding the crew both positive and negative. He/ She ensures the quality of work in addition to ensuring schedule. He/ She has the responsibility to provide training to new workers in different construction practices and safety measures. He/ She has to motivate the workers to do the work with high efficiency and ensuring that the work is completed on time properly. Making sure safety precautions are followed including updating safety kits in case of any emergencies during work. Helping in training new employees and helping them as they learn new tasks. Giving clear direction to workers as to what needs to be done to avoid repetitive mistakes by the workers. Making sure company rules are followed by crew. He/she should make sure that jobs are completed on time. The foreman should ensure tools are brought back from jobsites. Evaluate quickest way to a job without sacrificing quality of work being done. Hold the weekly job site safety meeting and record a record of it in the log for future references. Job Duties/Performance Expectations Assists and coordinates all construction activities Assists Superintendent with construction schedule, identifies and solves problems. Orders materials and schedules inspections as necessary throughout construction. Prepares field reports, quantity tracking, and other project reporting documents as needed. Assists with the weekly Subcontractor meetings. Leads the Stormwater documentation and inspections. Conducts weekly and monthly safety inspections and leads weekly tool bar safety meetings. Maintains site As-built documents Measure and mark cutting lines on materials, using ruler, pencil, chalk, and marking gauge. Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment. Verify trueness of structure, using plumb bob and level. Shape or cut materials to specified measurement, using hand tools, machines, or power saw. Study specifications in blueprints, sketches or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and material required. Assemble and fasten materials to make framework or props, using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue. Build or repair cabinets, doors, framework, floors, and other wooden fixtures used in buildings, using woodworking machines, carpenter’s hand tools, and power tools. Erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level. Remove damaged or defective parts or sections of structure and repair or replace, using hand tools. Install structures and fixtures, such as windows, frames, floorings, and trim, or hardware, using carpenter’s hand and power tools. Select and order lumber and other required materials. Maintain records, document actions and present written progress reports. Finish surfaces of woodwork or wallboard in houses and buildings, using paint, hand tools, and paneling. Arrange for subcontractors to deal with special areas such as heating and electrical wiring work. Inspect ceiling or floor tile, wall coverings, siding, glass, or woodwork to detect broken or damaged structures. Construct forms and chutes for pouring concrete. Cover subfloors with building paper to keep out moisture and lay hardwood, parquet, and wood-strip-block floors by nailing floors to subfloor or cementing them to mastic or asphalt base. Fill cracks and other defect in plasterboard and sand patch, using patching plaster, trowel, and sanding tool. Apply shock-absorbing, sound deadening, and decorative paneling to ceilings and walls. Travel required Administrative Responsibilities Assist with the preparation and distribution of letters. Assists with the preparation and distribution of transmittals. Assists with the preparation and submission of Request for Information.
