General Statement of Duties Parish Properties include: St Michael Cemetery including outbuildings, St Michael Roman Catholic Church, St Michael School, St Michael Rectory, Youth Center, Rectory Garage and St. Brigid’s Kitchen. This is a working superintendent position, requiring a variety of skills, including landscape maintenance, equipment maintenance, general maintenance, maintenance of cemetery records and maps, coordination of cemetery activities, custodial work, and oversight of other related facility work activities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities 1. Groundskeeper for all Parish Properties a. Works with the Parish/School Building and Grounds Committee b. Ensures the grounds are well maintained and debris free. c. Ensures the removal of weeds, garbage, plant debris and snow/ice d. Performs maintenance activities, using hand tools and operating equipment such as mowers, trimmers, weed eater, etc. e. Keeps track of daily maintenance performed, and supplies and materials used. Makes recommendation to Pastor and/or Principal on replenishments needed. Ensures equipment is properly maintained and safely operated. f. Inspects services provided by others for adherence to contracted work effort. Reports discrepancies to Pastor and/or Principal for corrective action. g. Routine inspection of facilities and grounds with timely reports of concerns/issues to Pastor. 2. Cemetery a. Identifies and marks sites for grave opening and placement of tombstones sites as requested. b. Management of cemetery operational data, to include detailed records are maintained, with regular backups, and reports to Pastor as requested. c. Ensures excavation at correct location, coordination with monument company, mortuary and grave site owner. Supervises the performance of excavation and landscaping duties, as requested. d. Manages vault inventory, requesting fulfillment in a timely manner e. Keeps track of graves, and ensures the upkeep of all burial sites and surrounding lots. f. Understanding of State and Local Cemetery rules & regulations. g. Respects all burials/funerals while working. 3. School Custodial Work a. Sweep, mop, wax, dust, vacuum, and other general cleaning tasks in assigned areas. b. Scrub and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily; clean drinking fountains, urinals, toilet bowls, door handles and other fixtures daily using such materials as will keep them in a clean and sanitary condition. c. Empty trash and recycling receptacles in all classrooms and other rooms as assigned. d. To wash all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year. e. To report immediately any damage to school property giving, whenever possible, the names of persons responsible. f. To be on duty in the building when events are scheduled outside of regular school hours, if attendance is requested by the principal. Overtime pay may apply g. Ensure building is closed and locked after all scheduled events. h. Perform other duties as directed by the principal. 4. Maintenance /Setup of Parish Properties a. Do light repairs, assembly & maintenance b. Set-up activities for special events as requested by Pastor and/or Principal c. Coordinate scheduling of regular maintenance needs (furnaces, etc.) d. Work with Pastor on planning major repairs e. Attend to seasonal needs (e.g. seasonal decorating, applying snow melt, etc..) f. Other duties as assigned by Pastor and/or Principal
