ISLAND PARK, NY — Nassu County police officers helped rescue a runaway dog that got stuck in a marsh just north of Island Park Monday morning. According to police, a call came in at 8:30 a.m. for a dog stranded in the marsh just north of 600 Long Beach Road. When they arrived, the officers found an adult male boxer that was unable to get back to shore. The police Marine Bureau and Emergency Service Unit responded with a boat and were able to get to the dog and pull it out of the marsh. They brought the dog to a nearby dock, where Town of Hempstead Animal Control took it to have it evaluated and treated for injuries. The dog had a microchip, which the town was able to use to contact its owner.
